[1] This multi-authored book is of South African Origin with a suite of international theologian authors and scholars who have various other specialties. It is the second book in a series, “An Earthed Faith: Telling the Story Amid the ‘Anthropocene’” –the Anthropocene has come to mean the geologic age we live in, extensively modified by humanity through its effects on global climate.
[2] Other books in the series are summarized, and the movement described is “Eco-theology.” This series appears to be aimed at scholars, students, and concerned religious leaders.
[3] The mystery associated with the title is discussed thoroughly. A road-map is offered in order to guide us through the process of trying to answer the guiding question—What is God up to?—as well as to elaborate on our (in addition to God’s) interaction with the world that surrounds us.
[4] Humanity seems to be on a course of ecological disaster influenced by climate change as well as racial and economic violence. The journey is described in ten chapters, several citing Indigenous cultures and their responses, global perspectives from developing countries, and the interaction with Christian theology from a post-colonial standpoint.
[5] The book is highly recommended for those concerned with the care of God’s creation.
